Know Before You Go
Bag & Coat Check
- For your convenience and the safety of the artwork, we kindly request bags and coats be checked into the coat room located on the Street Level, to the right of the Museum Shop.
- Coats are permitted into the galleries, if they remain worn throughout the entirety of your visit.
- Lockers with combination locks are provided free of charge.
- Visitors are responsible for removing all valuable from their bags before storing them.
Food & Beverages
- Food and beverages are available for purchase at Swedish Hill Aspen, located on Level 3.
- Outside food and beverages are not permitted into the Museum.
- Food and beverages are not permitted into the galleries, the Education Workshop, or the Museum Shop.
- Special requests may be accommodated within the Education Workshop with advanced arrangements: 970.925.8050 / info@aspenartmuseum.org.
Strollers
- For your convenience and the safety of the artwork, we kindly request that you store your stroller in the coat room located on the Street Level, to the right of the Museum Shop.
Bicycles & Bike Shoes, Skis/Snowboards & Ski Boots
- Bike racks are located on E Hyman Street (in front of the Museum) and on S Spring Street.
- For safety reasons, ski boots and cleated bike shoes are not allowed in the Museum.
- Please plan ahead and bring a change of shoes for your visit to the Museum.
Gallery Etiquette
- We ask that visitors do not touch or stand closer than 2 feet of any artwork unless otherwise noted or requested by a member of the AAM staff.
Cell Phone Use
- Cell phones are permitted in the museum.
- Out of respect for other visitors, we kindly ask that you take calls or have conversations outside of the gallery spaces.
Smoking & Vaping
- Smoking of any kind, including the use of e-cigarettes, is prohibited within the Aspen Art Museum.
- Smoking and vaping will set off the fire alarms, resulting in a mandatory evacuation of the entire building.
Weapons
- Firearms, explosives, or other dangerous or deadly weapons are prohibited on premises.
- This includes open and concealed carry.
- This restriction applies to all visitors, including those with firearm permits.
- Active law enforcement personnel are authorized to carry firearms on premises.
Sketching in the Museum
- Sketching with a pencil is permitted in the galleries and on Level 3, unless otherwise noted.
- Please refrain from bringing ink, paint, markers, or easels to the Aspen Art Museum.
Accessible Parking
Cars with a Handicapped Parking placard can park in the Reserved Handicapped Parking located next to the Museum on Spring Street. Within the City of Aspen, handicapped parking is allowed in any legal parking space and is not subject to time limit or payment.
Service Animals
The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Service animals matching these criteria are allowed in the Museum galleries. Pets or animal companions are not allowed in the Museum. Emotional support animals are not considered service animals, and will not be permitted into the Aspen Art Museum.
Special Needs
We are able to accommodate visitors with special needs to the best of our ability with advance arrangements through our Education Department. Please contact education@aspenartmuseum.org
Accessible Restrooms
Accessible restrooms and single-user/all gender restrooms are available on Street Level and Level 3.
Gallery Seating
Lightweight folding Gallery Stools are available by request at the Visitor Information Desk on Street Level.
Wheelchairs
The Aspen Art Museum is fully Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)–accessible and wheelchairs are welcome everywhere in the building. The AAM also provides a wheelchair free of charge. Visit the Visitor Information Desk on Street Level for more information.

Personal photography is welcome in most of the Museum’s public spaces and galleries. Exceptions to this will be noted either near the artwork, prior to entering the gallery, or in the gallery guide. Flash, speed flash, tripods, and other camera equipment are not permitted.

Street parking is available on the city blocks around the museum, with handicapped spaces available on S Spring Street.
Parking is also available at the nearby Rio Grande Parking Garage.
Restrooms are located on the Lower Level, Street Level, and Level 3 of the Aspen Art Museum.
All-gender restrooms are located on the Lower Level and Level 3.
All restrooms are wheelchair-accessible.
Most restrooms have baby-changing stations.

Please note that photographs and footage will be taken throughout the Aspen Art Museum by our in-house photographer. These images and footage may be used by the Aspen Art Museum for marketing and publicity in our publications, website, and social media.
