In partnership with the Aspen Music Festival and School, a string quartet will play a setlist of Heaven-related hits, curated by Alex Israel. Take a ski break and welcome in a once-in-a-lifetime viewing experience.
This event is part of the opening weekend of Alex Israel: Heaven on Aspen Mountain, the once-in-a-lifetime exhibition by Los Angeles–based artist Alex Israel. Exclusively accessible via ski-in, ski-out terrain, the exhibition is held in a former restaurant at the base of the treasured Ruthie’s Run on Aspen Mountain. The entire interior is painted a luminous white and inhabited by over thirty life-size portraits—painted aluminum structures that mimic cardboard cutouts—of celebrities who have died since the launch of Instagram on October 6, 2010. In conjunction with the exhibition, Israel designed the Aspen Mountain 2024–25 season lift ticket, which features a skyscape overlaid with the phrase “Your ticket to Heaven” in dynamic red script, referencing the logo of Heaven: The Supermarket of Pop Culture, a novelty store founded by Brad Benedict in Los Angeles’s Century City Mall in the late 1970s. Heaven is co-presented by Aspen Art Museum and Aspen One.
